Spray Foam Insulation From Patriot Express Insulation

Spray Foam Insulation is used by commercial builders, designers, and remodelers, to provide a uniform thermal insulation layer between the interior and exterior surfaces of a structure.

At Patriot Express Insulation we use both open and closed cell foam. The difference between closed cell and open cell is that closed cell foam is denser and has a higher r-value per inch. This makes it ideal for limited cavity space and for durability if it is left exposed. Open cell foam is softer making it ideal for sound attenuation. It is also less expensive providing more bang for you dollar when insulating your new home on a budget.

So which type of spray foam insulation should you use?

The answer depends on where the product is being installed.  For example, in a new home it is typically better to fill the walls with open cell foam to meet building code requirements for R-value.  This is much more cost effective than installing closed cell foam in the cavities and only partially filling them.  Also, filling the cavities reduces the risk of air infiltration.  Closed cell spray foam insulation is a better option such as in basements applied to concrete walls as a vapor barrier.  Closed cell spray foam insulation is a waterproof foam approved by FEMA for basements in flood plains.  If the house is flooded, the closed cell foam insulation may be left in place reducing costs to refinish a compromised basement.  Also, if you have a limited cavity space, such as a 2×4 wall, closed cell spray foam insulation can achieve R21 in only 3 inches and open cell needs 5.25 inches to achieve R21.

Spray Foam Insulation Applications

The insulating spray foam insulation material is applied to the framing and subfloor cavities of a structure using a high-pressure nozzle that shoots a continuous stream of hot liquid polymer through a fine atomizer. The mixture of inert gas and liquid is pumped through the atomizer to form a continuous layer of foam.

Its popularity has increased substantially in recent years. It has a number of advantages over fiberglass and cellulose. Spray foam insulation is an air barrier and eliminates convection in your walls that fiberglass and cellulose cannot.  Studies show that homes insulated with spray foam insulation heat and cool for up to 50% less than homes insulated with the same R value of fiberglass. In addition, fiberglass and cellulose making great nesting material for rodents and insects.

If you want to save money by insulating your home, look into spray foam insulation, which is an environmentally-friendly, fast and easy alternative to fiberglass.
